Leadership Development
Leadership institutes and programs are dedicated to meeting the local
grassroots needs by developing and enhancing individual and organizational
leadership and management for improving and promoting the health of communities.
These programs provide a unique learning experience for a broad array
of public health professionals who are integral to the development of
healthy communities. Through the development of leadership skills and
a shared vision, the institutes/programs facilitate creative, integrated,
and collaborative approaches to the achievement of the Public Health
Core Functions and Essential Public Health Services. These programs are
developing an extensive network of public health leaders with an increased
capacity to strengthen the relationship among public health practitioners,
health care service providers, academia, and communities.
“Today, the need for leaders is too great to leave
their emergence to chance.” IOM Report 1988
